Gaia — Board 2022/2023

Maria Dziouba — Chair

She/They

Hello! My name is Maria and I will be the chair of the coming year. I love movies, fashion, and obsessing about niche subjects for a few weeks. But most of all I love the big questions of the universe. How can you not be curious to find out why we are here and how the stars work? I am incredibly excited to work with the amazing people on this board. We will give it our all and will do some great things for the lovely people of Sirius A.

Lotte Bartels — Secretary

She/Her

Hi! My name is Lotte, I just started my masters in Astronomy. This year I'll be your secretary, meaning not only will I be in charge of the fantastic monthly Sirius A newsletter, but I will take on the great honour of responding to emails (mostly) and doing lots of administrative tasks (I know, don't get too jealous now). In my spare time, I enjoy drawing - in my booked time, I help Sirius A create eye-catching posters for their coveted events. I also play the piano (sometimes...) and, to my housemates' delight, love a good karaoke session while doing the dishes. I trust Gaia will do great this year!

Marloes van Asselt — Treasurer

She/Her

Hey everyone! My name is Marloes. I'm 22 years old and I'm currently a first year master. I grew up in a small city in South-Holland called Maassluis. When I was 18 I decided to move to Groningen to study Astronomy and I'm so happy I did! Over the past four years I've made so many great friends, in part due to Sirius A. Before my board year I also was in the Kapteyn Food Committee for three years. I really enjoyed doing this committee as I had some wonderful committee members and it ties into my love for baking. I'm really looking forward to the coming year and I hope to meet all of you during our events!

Jorick Lania — Commissioner of Internal Affairs

He/Him

Hey everyone! My name is Jorick, I'm 21 years old and right now I'm in the first year of the Astronomy master! I'm from a miniscule town on the edge of Groningen, and have lived and studied around the area pretty much all my life. In my free time I love making and writing music (and puns), and learning as many musical instruments as I can (this year's challenge: piano)! I also play for a couple of small-time bands, so music is almost always on my mind. In the coming year I hope to see each and every one of you at our events, and I am excited to play my part in Sirius A together with my awesome fellow board members!

Willem de Roo — Commissioner of External Affairs

He/Him

Hi! My name is Willem and I'm currently in the second year of the Astronomy master. This means that I'll be writing my thesis this year, so there's busy times ahead. Although I was born in the city of Groningen, I have lived in a small town nearby for most of my life. In my free time I love to play and create music, hang out with friends and to dabble with cooking. I've been part of Voyager for three years, a committee that is close to my heart. During our trip to Cologne, I felt that I wanted to do more for Sirius A and decided to apply for board. Now, a couple of months down the line, I couldn't be happier with this decision and I'm very much looking forward to making this a fantastic year with my fellow board members!

Jill Straat — Commissioner of Educational Affairs & Vice Chair

She/Her

Heyy! I am Jill and currently in my first year of the Astronomy Master's. Next to my study, I will be the Commissioner of Educational Affairs for Sirius A. I was born in Belgium but have lived most of my life in the Netherlands. In my free time, I love to roll up in a blanket with a book or a series/film and a nice cup of tea. When I have a little more time, I also really like going all out with baking or cooking. I am looking forward to making this an amazing year for Sirius A with my incredible board!
